Mike Muhlherr - Hammerhead Artist

I have to admit that my interest in woodworking came much later in life. But now that I've started, my family knows that with every trip to the beach or to the hill country, we'll most likely be bringing home some wood.

Growing up, my family moved around a lot. We lived all over Texas, Louisiana, California, England and Indonesia. I was always interested in fine art and nature, and our travels enabled me to see different cultures and to experience the great outdoors.

I've been a graphic designer, art and creative director, and a marketing specialist. I've worked most of my life in Houston for many different companies.

This site is my attempt at making art for myself—I love working with wood. Driftwood and weathered wood have so much character, and when the interior is exposed, unexpected things happen. I often don't have any idea what the finished piece will look like until it's done. And for me, that's why I do it.

Special thanks to Ken Childress for the photography! I highly recommend him.
