I'll have a few more for the show as well.

Barn Swallow
Bougainvillea, sea glass
9.5 in H x 10 in W

This bird is a single piece of Bougainvillea made of seaglass.

Yellowtail Kookaburra
Bougainvillea, bottlebrush
9.5 in H x 10 in W

Bougainvillea is a difficult wood to work with, but it has its merits!

New
California Burning
Driftwood, bottlebrush
14 in H x 8 in W

This piece was inspired by the wildfires in California last year.

Shore Bird II
Driftwood, pine bark
8 in H x 16 in W

This bird at rest is made from a block of driftwood from Surfside. It has some great spalting and coloration.

Old Texas I
Driftwood, yellowed bottlebrush, brick base
6.5 in H x 16.5 in W

This piece of driftwood was brought back from Kayak Point in Washington State.

Shore Bird IV
Spalted driftwood, walnut, sea-worn brick base
4.5 in H x 4.5 in W

Another small item that looks great on a smaller shelf. The red on its head is natural.

Ruidoso Raptor
Pinyon pine, bottlebrush, brick base
14.5 in H x 8 in W

This interpretation of a hawk was inspired by hood ornaments of vintage automobiles and by mid-century modern ceramic forms.

Raven
Driftwood, cedar fence base
12 in H x 10 in W

I keep this piece on a high shelf--it just seems natural for it to have a high perch.

Bird at Rest
Weathered wood, squirrel-assisted pine cone, brick base
12 in H x 13 in W

Another weathered piece of mesquite from Inks Lake, TX. There's a lot of movement in the wood grain.

This is a small item but it has a lot of character.

Redfish Bluefish
Fence post, barbed wire, brick base
17 in H x 18 in W

I found the original wood in a field in Oklahoma. Two separate pieces of wood had grown around the barbed wire and were held together by the wire. The different shapes of each piece dictated what types of fish they would be--a speckled trout and a redfish.

Whale Tail
Mesquite, driftwood base
22.5 in H x 12 in W

This mesquite is over 70 years old. I retrieved it from a ranch near Alice, TX. The property owner had a fence made of stacked cut mesquite, probably about 100 ft long and 4 ft high. He had started stacking the axe-hewn wood over 70 years ago. You could tell the newer wood because it was cut with a chain saw. Looking for an opportunity to make a visit for more wood.
